Creativity, Action, Service | CAS

Creativity, action, service (CAS) is a mandatory core component of the IB Diploma Programme. It aims to provide a counterbalance to the academic rigour of the educational programme.

The function of CAS is to "give students the means to learn through experience to take actions in the service of others.

All the portions (creativity, action, and service) should, according to the International Baccalaureate Organisation, be interpreted as imaginatively as possible, so that a wide array of different activities can qualify for CAS. The learning outcomes and the quality of the CAS activity are of utmost importance.

CAS outcomes:

  •     Increase awareness of your strengths and areas for growth
  •     Undertake new challenges
  •     Plan and initiate activities
  •     Work collaboratively with others
  •     Show perseverance and commitment
  •     Engage with issues of global importance
  •     Consider ethical implications
  •     Develop new skills

International Projects of the International School Braunschweig-Wolfsburg in cooperation with United World Schools

International School Braunschweig-Wolfsburg is a “United World Schools” partner school

United World Schools is an organization comprising of members and partner schools including prestigious IB World Schools like United World Colleges. United World Schools (UWS) and International School Braunschweig-Wolfsburg have come together to develop and enrich educational opportunities for young people, both within the International School Braunschweig – Wolfsburg and in the marginalised communities where UWS works.

After discussions with our CAS students, they chose to partner & support with the project in Myanmar. The school in Myanmar is called Kaung Whatt and is located in the Shan State. The school was built this year and already has nearly 200 children (photographs of the school and the students are attached herewith).

Ways UWS helps with the IB Curriculum

A school partnership with UWS provides:

  • Both opportunities and resources for students to engage with all elements of the Learner Profile.
  • Tangible international links to help “develop internationally minded learners who recognize their common humanity”.
  • Detailed case studies, pictures, videos and assemblies to help learners explore and understand a different culture.
  • Support for the Diploma Programme’s Extended Essay through the provision of bibliographies, pictures, videos and the opportunity to carry out first hand interviews with key stakeholders at a UWS School.
  • Opportunities for learners to see visible impact from their Creativity, Action & Service elements.
  • Links to other Partner Schools and their work with UWS and the IB.
  • Support to students and the school to visit their UWS School and see the impact they have had first hand.
