Cambridge Secondary I Programme = IS Middle School (Years 6,7,8)
The Cambridge Secondary 1 Programme is a curriculum framework to develop English, Mathematics, and Science skills, knowledge and understanding in learners.
The curriculum of the IS is based on the Secondary 1 Programme curriculum frameworks in Years 6 to 8. We use a number of tests to enable teachers and parents to see the students’ progress. Three times a school year students write Assessment Tests.
Please check on the right box how the different tests for English, Maths and Science are spread over the year.
At the end of every school year students sit the Cambridge Secondary 1 Progression Tests. Progression Tests provide valid internal assessment of knowledge, skills and understanding in the three subjects and enable learning to be assessed each year. By using the Progress Checker the Progression Tests provide detailed information about the performance of each learner and enable teachers to give structured feedback to learners and parents. Teachers are able to compare strengths and weaknesses of individuals and groups.
Cambridge Secondary 1 Checkpoints in English, Maths and Science are taken by the year 8 students in spring at the end of Secondary 1 Programme. They are marked in Cambridge and each learner receives a statement of achievement and a diagnostic report. The Cambridge Secondary 1 Checkpoint feedback reports help our school to make strategic decisions, drawing on a pool of results information. The feedback gained from Cambridge Secondary 1 Checkpoint is also an invaluable source of information for learners and parents, providing them with a transferable indication of academic progress and achievement. Cambridge Checkpoint scores can be used to predict IGCSE results. Naturally students can do better than their predicted grade if they work harder or achieve less if they do not put in enough effort.
